Wild Voices Collective Magazine
Poetry, prose, music, readings and visual art for the wild
Art, in all its forms, is a powerful tool for personal, cultural, and environmental transformation. It is a unifying force that can bridge divides, heal wounds, and inspire collective action. The NO KINGS website states: “An essential element of movement and community building is art and artists who bring life and creativity to the message of the moment.”
I’ve been thinking a lot about the need to create and consume art that nourishes and inspires vs. the oversaturation of online “content” which often does the opposite. There is incredible art hidden within those waves of content, of course, but it is all too often drowned out by excessive noise. So I have been writing when I feel compelled and when I feel I have something of value to share, and exploring creative ways to share work in a way that inspires and sparks change. The Wild Voices Collective magazine is one of the outcomes.
We are a gathering place to remember ourselves as one with the sun, the air, the trees and all of our wild neighbors who share our earthly home. The inaugural summer solstice issue, launching on June 21st, is a celebration of creativity, connection, and the wild, resiient joy of the summer season.
We are calling our offering a magazine because we curate all of the work before sending the newsletter. We are hoping this format will invite readers like you to engage not just with words but with imagery, sound, and storytelling in a way that evokes deeper experience while being kinder to your email inbox. As this experiment grows, we may expand into new forms, evolving organically to include interactive elements or other creative expressions that deepen connection between contributors and readers.
In our first issue, you’ll hear authors read their own work. My brother Alex Chakour, will be stitching each of their recordings together with music and sound interludes in between to create something unique and beautiful. Contributors for the upcoming issue include The Far Woods,
, , , Jane Anderson, , Kate Dworman, Kristen Weiss of Project Coyote, and more. joined as a guest collaborator.I’ve long craved a magazine I can listen to, in the voices of the artists and writers themselves. It’s an experiment, and I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please subscribe and when you enjoy an artist’s work, leave a comment for them to let them know.
I can’t wait to share the first Wild Voices Collective magazine with you!
In the meantime, watch the beautiful, moving Wolf Show by WVC contributors, The Far Woods:
