April 22nd is Earth Day, an ideal time to remember our relatedness and our innate connection to the land under our feet. Nature is always taking care of us through the creation of clean air, food, and every other aspect of life that we need in order to thrive, and we have the knowledge and opportunity to return her ceaseless generosity. While some environmentalists believe the Earth would be better off without us, I believe that underneath all of the displaced pain, suffering, greed, and illusion of separation, we are an integral part of the living Earth.
The information we need to heal this world is not more statistics and stories of doom but stories about our interconnection, along with practices that slow us down and reinforce symbiosis. The faster we come to understand that we are nature and not separate from the web of life, the better off we’ll be as individuals, and the better off our shared home, our planet, will be.
I have organized a week of in-person gatherings in New York City where I learned to love the weeds and where my herbalism training and teaching began:
APRIL 19th: Book Celebration with Little Choc Apothecary
APRIL 21st: Book Signing at Flower Power Herbs and Roots
APRIL 22nd: Talk and book signing at the Yale Club in NYC (for Yale Club members and guests. RSVP through their website)
APRIL 23rd & 24th: Plant Walks with Alchemist’s Kitchen
Tonight, I’ll be celebrating the release of Awakening Artemis with Little Choc Apothecary. A vegan creperie run by friend and former herbalism student, Julia. Little Choc catered many of my retreats at the Wolf Conservation Center which I hope, will start up again soon too.
Thursday, I’ll be signing books at Flower Power, an iconic herb store in the East Village. I adore this place, it was a sanctuary for me during my years in NYC. Hope you’ll stop by.
Friday evening, from 6-9:30 pm I’ll be giving a talk and signing books at the Yale Club. This is for Yale Club members and their guests. If you’re a member or know one, I’d love to see you there.
Earth Day weekend, April 23rd and 24th will be the first in-person plant walk I’ve offered in 2 years. It will be a homecoming. Prospect Park in Brooklyn was my training and stomping ground for over a decade. Join us for a plant walk, picnic, and storytelling circle.
Whatever you do this week, I hope you'll give yourself some time and space to breathe, unplug and connect to nature. There are countless ways to be involved in regeneration, and I believe that deepening intimacy with the living land is a vital place to begin.
